kkk My paintings are predominately about colour, both in their intensity and subtlety. This interest in colour stems from my inherent synaesthesia. The word synaesthesia is a blend of the Greek 'syn' meaning together; and 'aisthesis' meaning sensation. It creates a double experience where the majority of people only have one - for instance experiencing colours in ones minds-eye when hearing music. For myself it is a linking of colours with numbers, the alphabet, and certain words. Through my studies I have also developed an interest in the spatial Fourth Dimension, which to me is akin to something just beyond my grasp, perhaps in my subconscious. When these two ideas combine it creates an interesting vehicle enabling me to apply a variety of brush stroke and alternative applications of paint which, along with colour, is of paramount importance in my paintings. Therefore, central to my ethos, is the relationship of colour within space. |
